iPhone Advice

I have an iPhone 6. Battery life getting very short, and now it seems that the charging port on the phone is damaged. I have to stay with Apple. Repair or replace??

So you have a newer phone, lol. I still have a 5s. I've had the battery and charging port replaced at a place here called icare Repair, not sure if there is a location near you. Less than a hundred bucks. Phone works just fine, but I do need an upgrade soon.

I would look to upgrade, especially you malarson. Support for the 5 is no longer coming from Apple and it lacks some stuff like VoLTE and VoWiFi. As most carriers will be shutting CDMA down within the next couple years, it will become a paper weight.

I would look at at the 8, 8+ or X. They have the new features and many carriers are discounting them in favor of the newer XR, XS and EX Max. They are nice phones BUT, they are still working out some issues that developed because of their Intel chipsets. Now that Apple and Qualcomm have kissed and made up, the phones coming out in the fall will once again have Qualcomm chips and things should run a little smoother.

If you live in area that has spotty service and you have good wifi, the VoWiFi is pretty handy.

I'm having the same problem with battery life on my 5S. Are any of the newer phones small like the 5S? I'm not a fan of the larger sizes, I like one small enough that I can stick it in my shirt pocket.

I carry a Samsung S10+ myself. The company I work for is looking to add 5G services but it might be a very limited roll out until the tech improves. Right now it is dependent upon high freq technologies that have limited range and very line of sight. You have to have mini cell sites on every block in a city and being 90% of our coverage is in hilly rural Kentucky, it is impossible right now.

I finally ditched my 4S. The reason I held onto it so long is that I did like the small size. Those days are gone. I bought a 7S. Not too big. Got it on eBay, set up fot AT&T and Cricket new in sealed box for $325. I do like it and it fits in my shirt pocket.

I like the large phones. I have big pockets, but not too deep haha ! The Samsung S 10 and the S 10e are very palm size friendly. The S 10+ and the S 10 5g have 6.4 and 6.7 inch diagonal screens, respectively.

Just ditched my 5c for a new X, love it, Verizon had an upgrade deal for $25 a month, so not too bad.

So I stopped in at a place called UBreakIFix. It is a chain I believe - They repair phones, tablets, computers, etc. Explained my problem. He took my phone in the back and 5 minutes later came out and handed it back to me. He cleaned the charging port. Said it happens all the time. FREE! I will definitely go back there if I have a problem.

Got an 8, love it. You guys are using stone age phones with the 4's, 5's and 6's.

I recommend an upgrade. If you plan on staying with a certain carrier, then upgrade.

FWIW, my iPhone 7 is going on 3 years now, and battery performance is still very good. It way outperformed my 5 or 6s. Replace your iPhone 6 with the newer model that makes the most sense for you (features and economics). I think there are some pretty good deals to be had on 7's and 8's when you upgrade.
