New Member, Long Time Lurker
Hello VMF community! I'm excited to be a part of the overall vintage Mustang community. I've been a lurker here for quite a few years and decided to finally get an account and share my progress and read up on other builds as well! But first, a quick thank you to all the posters and forum helpers who answered a lot of my questions right off the bat in old threads!
I bought my '66 right out of college as my first car. I wanted something fun and classic that I could work on with my father. He taught me everything I know about cars and started teaching me when I was around 10 years old, both maintenance of the family cars and small modifications to his own. However, this is the first total rebuild we have ever done. I bought the car as a V8 from a small auto museum here in Minnesota. It has been quite a learning experience as I found out that the car was originally an I6 and all the previous owner did was slap a V8 in it and call it a day. It has been this forum especially that has helped me identify what components need to be fixed or replaced to make sure the car is safe for driving. As it turns out, damn near everything needs to be replaced when you do that swap. Over the last 4 years I have overcome many obstacles including a full suspension and steering rebuild, brake conversion front and rear, rear end rebuild, and minor engine and electrical work. Ill probably start a build thread so I dont fill this up with list of actual changes Ive made. I still have a lot to do as I find new things to change or refurbish, but as of now Im hoping to get past my new V8 driveshaft and apparent I6 C4 3 speed transmission slip yolk compatibility issue.
Below is a pic of how she looked last fall before I put here away. Shes been up on jacks for 6 months while I try to get her road worthy again, hopefully before the end of the summer.
