Leaking 500 series box

I have a new 500 series power steering box that I installed this spring. It has developed a leak at the seal on the worm shaft closest to the rag joint. I called to discuss warranty and was told I need to pay shipping and customs both to and from to get cpp to repair under warranty. As I am located in British Columbia, I will spend the equivalent dollars doing that as I did on the new box to start with. What is the point of the "lifetime warranty"? When I had the conversation with the staff person from cpp I essentially got told sorry company policy, any other questions? I will pull the box out and repair on my dime. It is easy for a company to say "company policy" it is also easy for a company to pull up a clients account and see that they have spent thousands and perhaps something could be done to look after the client. This box isn't a year old, two years old etc. this box has been in the car for three months and probably has 300 miles on it. As I have said in a couple other posts, I own retail fitness equipment stores and we are dealers for the best brands in our industry. Stuff breaks. When a new product breaks the manufacturer ships the part up under warranty and we do the service work. No charge to the client. If we didn't do that, we wouldn't have been around since 1990. That is customer service period. I am baffled by the lack of common sense when it comes to customer service. This situation is retail 101, yet is so often lost on so many companies. I shouldn't be paying for shipping on this part either way. I am already going to have to do the work to re and re the box which I am fine with. The rest I am not. There's my customer service review for cpp on this situation.

Re: Leaking 500 series box

Yep. That's a crock. I can sorta understand the shipping it back to them but the cost to ship it back to you should be on their dime not yours.
