Re: key won't turn to open the trunk.

Just to be sure you're using the right key, it should work for the glove box as well as the trunk.

Did you try some penetrating oil or graphite in the lock cylinder ?

Yes, it (trunk) can be opened from the inside with a screwdriver after removing the rear seat.

Re: key won't turn to open the trunk.

I would be extremely difficult to fit a person through the cross bracing unless they are very small.

You can use long extensions to unbolt the trunk latch

Re: key won't turn to open the trunk.

A locksmith should be able to open without damaging the lock and the hassle of going in through the backseat.

Re: key won't turn to open the trunk.

You could always drill it out but then you'd have to replace the whole lock.

Re: key won't turn to open the trunk.

If you get access to the inside of the trunk by removing the back seat, this is the part of the lock you want to turn. The photo below shows three 7/16" head bolts that hold the lock mechanism to the bracket. Sort of in the middle of the three bolts there is a round hole in the bracket. Inside the round hole there is a slot in the trunk lock mechanism. A flat head screwdriver will fit in the slot. If it will turn, the trunk will open.

You will need a flashlight.

With the trunk lock installed the flat lock shaft from the lock goes thru the slot so you can not slip a screwdriver into it.

Re: key won't turn to open the trunk.

Suggestions given are, as Patrick suggests, take flashlight and a flat blade screwdriver, and As John suggests, welcome lock installed, the screwdriver won't fit in slot.
My suggestion is, as said, take flashlight, screwdriver AND A 5/16 wrench/nutdriver.
Remove rear seat back, bend two tabs in middle for better access, crawl into trunk.
Once at latch, use wrench and remove screw on side of framework as this action allows removal of lock bracket - remove screw, push bracket to drvr side, push out tumbler.
Now use screwdriver into slot and twist - WALA - OPEN lid.
I have done this feat.

Re: key won't turn to open the trunk.

If the shaft through the latch protrudes far enough you can twist it with a pair of pliers

Go on youtube and learn to pick locks. It's not that difficult.

The shaft does not turn while tumbler is in place and shaft is attached/riveted to tumbler.

You might push down on trunk lid removing the stress on lock before turning key.

I think it will turn because of the way the shaft interlocks into the cylinder

Guess somebody could open their trunk push the latch in the closed position and try turning the shaft!

Re: key won't turn to open the trunk.

Shoot some PB Blaster or similar in the lock cylinder. Apply downward pressure on the
lid just above the lock and try the key again. If you have a backup key try it. Is the key
going into the cylinder all the way? If not then a tumbler has fallen out and you'll need
a locksmith or go through the back seat.

Re: key won't turn to open the trunk.

I just drilled out my 67 Chevelle trunk lock.

Somehow lost the key, if I ever had it ?

I have new replacements in my AAW rewire kit so I took a 3/16" bit and drilled in about 1-1/2" then followed with a bigger 5/16" bit.

Then inserted a flat blade screwdriver to unlock it.

Just be sure not to drill in too deep past the lock cylinder.

You probably should call a locksmith so you don't damage something.
