Number Question

Could TO526JC be correct for a 69 SS motor?

seems like it should be a 9 rather than a 6

Trying to help a guy figure out via email if his Kansas City built 69 is a real SS or not and it does have the L on the trim tag.

TIA

Re: Number Question

Here's what I see
JC 69 396 350 4B,MT CH,EC

Not sure what the 6 vs 9 ref is for.
To me it's just part of the date -ie:May 26

Re: Number Question

May 26 is a Monday, 29 is a Thursday.

The only reason someone would want insurance is if they want to pay someone elses bills or want someone else to pay their bills.

BIGOT is a word used by people that can't use logical reasoning to prove that you are wrong when you don't agree with them.

Re: Number Question

I see what Mike sees: a date code which really means nothing absent additional data (whether the 6 is a 9 or whatever is not germane to the discussion): The real crux of the discussion is if the engine in question has a partial VIN that matches the car's VIN (and if the engine's partial VIN is legit).

The engine date code needs to be looked at in relation to the data presented on the Body By Fisher (Cowl) Tag.
The engine VIN needs to match the car's VIN.
What other documentation is there?
What's the partial VIN and date code on the transmission?
What's the date code of the rear axle?
Does the Radiator Core Support have 4 holes or three?
Is the BBC Steering Column present?

Some of that stuff is really not proof but Yeah, I pretty much already told him all that and also that a lot of 69 KAN cars had the partial VIN stamped down by the oil filter.
The picture he sent me of the numbers near the alternator don't have anything but the T0526JC.

KAN 69's didn't have any engine code info on the trim tag, other than the L which I won't comment on now.

I usually just tell them to join TC and ask.
The "6" is what I was curious about.

THANKS

Re: Number Question

i have one engine that has T0526JC in my list it falls into the 06A build range. it was for sale on ebay and just the engine. of note the Kansas city plant jumps from 04E to 05D during the May period vins in the 441XXX range. I have yet to run across a 69 Kansas city body tag with 05A, 05B or 05C. it might be possible that all the May builds were coded with 05D and were 04D and E that bled into the next month.

Re: Number Question

Lines up pretty well with that tag. I've yet to hear of anyone faking a vin by the oil filter FWIW.

If someone added a BBC they most likely would have changed the shaft. Doesnt prove SS or is acceptable since other cars got them for whatever reason. My 307 4 door had one. Engine was original.
