The Business Unit Leader (what they call the supervisors) of the engine assembly room at my work bought an orange '08 Challenger SRT8 last summer. My buddy at work who drives a '08 G8 GT always talked trash to the guy about "not wanting any of that GTO out there, blah blah blah" (he's a Pontiac freak, nothing wrong with that). So the die had been cast for an inevitable future confrontation. He lives on the eastern shore of Mobile Bay, as do I, but I've never ran into him going to work before, until today.

I saw him on the interstate as I was driving down the on-ramp and sped up and got 1 car behind him. A stupid minivan was separating the 2 of us. It took me a minute or so to get around the minivan and when I looked for him he was about a half mile up the interstate. He must of floored it when he saw me coming, lol. He ran into some traffic ahead and had to slow down and I got up behind him. Traffic thinned back out and he took off. I let him get a couple cars on me and then I floored it. It didn't take long at all before my front bumper was flirting with his tail pipes.

He tried to get away from me 2 more times and the results were the same. That portly old Challenger didn't stand a chance. The car is bone stock. He knew most of the things I've done to mine (he doesn't know about the 102mm throttle body, cai, and maf. Not that it's a big secret, I've just not had a chance to talk with him since it was put on and redyno tuned). I'll give him credit for wanting to have a go knowing he was giving up 100+ hp and a weight disadvantage. I know it's not as glorious as a side by side 3 honk race, but still, a kill's a kill, and old boy in the SRT8 is dead 3 times over. :D

Stock vs. stock you should beat him. With your mods; easy. IIRC, they're over 4K lbs. I pretty much destroyed one of those a couple of weeks ago and I'm probabably not as modded as you....

I haven't seen any of the new 6.4L 392 Challengers yet. I'm still waiting to bump into my first 5.0 coyote. Hell, I haven't even got to run a SS Camaro yet. Haven't had much luck as of late on the interstate. For awhile there, I was running into all sorts of things to play with. Since last fall, I've been in a slump.

Great kill!

I keep trying to bait a Challenger that runs around my town every time I see him,but I guess he knows he can't win because he always tries to ignore me.lol

I have yet to meet up with something that can take me... we got a pretty good deal on performance with these things, I went up against an LS1 T/A and put the hurt on him too, even though I was the heavier opponent, while beating a Chrysler 300 SRT/8 at the top of 2nd from a dig on another occasion. I've been lucky though, doesn't seem like too many folks in my area are modded, much less have a car designed for this kind of thing...

Nice Kill.

I've had a dry spell here too. Must be the economy, nobody driving there race cars and when they do they're easy on them.

I still have yet to see a stock SRT8 run better than a 13.4ish.

I saw an SRT8 Challenger at the track that someone said was a 6.4 L 392. He didn't run very well and left after two passes. I never got close enough to see if it was a 6.4 or not. If it was, I wasn't impressed. He was running a bit slower than my 5.0.

I'd be more interested in what you could do against a mostly stock C5 Z06. I know the outcome with a 5.0 Coyote, it's just a matter of how bad you'd beat it.

:agree

If it even takes that long. Ford has the 5.0 Coyote for sale as a crate engine already. Saw one in one of my latest car mags for less then $6500.

GM owns crate engines. What suxs about the Ford engines they are so darn huge.
You aren't kidding with that. When you compare the 5.0 and the 5.7 side by side, the 5.0 looks like it's a big block. It's wide and tall. Not a good combination for setting the engine low and helping handling.

Nice kill, sounds easy.

Only if it's the slower 6M SRT-8

Ooh, the number dropped! :) I bet he had a 2.1 60ft.... ;)
Nope, hasn't dropped. They consistantly run 13.6-13.9 and 13.4 is the best I've seen. I'm very consistant in that number.

You better tell the car mags the Autos are quicker. They seem to think the opposite is true.

Kudos to the OP. However, a Challenger could get killed everyday of the week, but I'd still love to have one......

Don't have to, the autos are quicker in all their instrumented tests of the SRT-8s.

I was going to post road tests proving you are wrong, I have them ready, but I'm not going down this road for the 23 rd rendition of your opinion versus my opinion backed with facts.

Stock for stock the GTO is faster than an SRT8.

Nice kill again Dusty.

No you're not because you already supplied data showing the manual is slower.

The ONLY time you've seen a 2.0x 60ft from an SRT-8 was that 13.4 run. Funny because they launch easier than GTOs. Also funny how short your memory is and can't comprehend a car that traps 108mph (or higher) can run a sub-13.0.

All deep 13sec runs, faster and/or quicker than any manual test you can produce, instrumented tests, same day.
