I'm pretty sure that the frame is gloss black. I'm not sure if the rear end and trailing arms are gloss also.

The frames were not painted. When we restore these cars, that's when the frames get painted. But originally, on the production line, they were bare metal. The suspension components are all GM Chassis Black, which is a very low gloss black, but not quite a flat black. Look for any semi-gloss or satin black, and it'll be fine.

I painted my 66 control arms 60% gloss black as well as the frame, inner fenders, core support and firewall. I believe the 64 - 74 restoration guide is incorrect when they state the frame for 64 and 65 were painted gloss black.

I agree, Randy. I've had 9 GTO's, a close friend of mine has had 15 GTO's, and these were all purchased as used, gas hog cars for $75--$1800 25-30 years ago. They were original and not restored. While the rear end housings, control arms, springs, and front suspension were always painted chassis black, the frames never had any paint on them, unless it was overspray from a cheapie paintjob.
