63 SS brakes

I have a brake set-up thats supposidly from a 63 SS 409 car...It was a big brake set up. Is there such a thing? Its the spindles, complete brakes and springs..

There wasn't anything more than bucket seats and badges with the SS package, it was a trim option (it's own body style actually). You could order the 230 in line six with the SS option add A/C and power everything except horsepower with the SS package.

There was an optional HD suspension package (RPO Code F-42), but the only thing checking the 409 box on the order form bought you was a thicker radiator than the stock one because of the HD Cooling needed to accompany the 409's extra power.

If you are talking about disc brakes they were not an option on the big cars until 1968 and were the ones taken off of the Corvette and put on the big cars as the B-body got heavier every year.

The only optional brake system on an SS, or 409, or whatever model would have been metallic drum brake linings but the diameter was still the same as standard and the spindles were the same.

Dave, you need to move your disc brake quote back a notch to 1967 as the first year for disc brakes on full size Chevy car.
