Ignition switch

I am trying to remove my ignition switch from my dash. 66 Belair

This switch is buggered up when I got the car. It turns but not well.
It would not turn at all inti the ACC position. After some work today I got it to but very poorly.
I placed a small wire in the hole in the switch face but it will not insert in the hole in the cylinder.

I am frustrated as this is a 5 minute task.
I am about to drill it out , but not sure the lock will release.

Thanks

Al

Drill and Saws-all will get it out of the car, but you are going to have to buy a new switch as well as a new lock. Be careful unless you plan on redoing the whole dash anyway later on as the spinning lock and Saws-all could make a mess otherwise.

The Milwaukee Saws-All is kind of like the Tasmanian Devil from the Bugs Bunny cartoons. Difference is though both destroy what ever is in front of them, you get to choose the direction of where you want to point a Saws-All.

Ah ya. The switch does not work anyway. So I was buying a new one anyway.

If I have to drill I will.

Thanks.

Silly question, but I have to ask-

You do know that the wire goes in at the ACC position, not in the OFF position? People sometimes make that mistake trying to remove it.

Actually yes I do

Thanks for checking. Never hurts to ask.

Last owner completely bypassed the switch.

I will work at it tomorrow

Revisiting a old topic. Getting back to my car.
So I had not found a new switch for a 66 Belair/impala.
I was told that a 66 Chevelle is the same switch as the 66 Belair
Can anyone confirm this.

Thanks
