engine rpm

My 69 idles fine when it is first started but as soon as it is warmed up and i put it in park the rpm's soar.What could cause this?

Sounds like there is no choke/ fast idle, so someone has turned up the base idle to compensate. With it warmed up, back off the idle screw until the idle is closer to where it should be. You will then find you don't like how the car behaves on a cold start, so you will want to find a happy medium... or fix the real problem.

What carb do you have?

*Personally, it doesn't bother me to not have a working choke. Most of my cars/trucks are set up to run well at temp, I don't mind having to play with the gas pedal a bit to keep them going on a cold start.

I have an eldebrock with a manuel ckoke.

OK, I'm not too familiar with that carb (even though I've owned a few).

I would guess that when you are pulling out the choke, it does not bump up the idle because it doesn't have a provision for it. I still would want to run the car up to temp, back off the idle screw, then see how the car acts on a cold start.
