69 impala Rochester 2 barrel carb rebuild

hi, i have just rebuilt my 69 impalas 2 barrel carb because i had gas leaking out of the side of the carb when i would shut off the car, so i got it rebuilt but unfortunately i forgot to take pictures before i started the process and i cannot seem to get the choke to open up on its own, the car will start but only if i prop open the choke and i have been trying everything i can think of to get it to work on its own to no avail, any help is appreciated.

Also when i hit the accelerator and dont floor the pedal white smoke pours out of the carb, not entirely sure what that means but id assume its not good.

It is a link to another site but it is a tutorial on how to rebuild the carb. Maybe you can backtrack your steps to see what you did wrong.

Somewhere at home I have exploded view of the 2bbl carb. I will post it if I can find it.
