Dry Walling Party, now with a date!!!

Keep 11/1/09 open.

Drywall party @ my place!!!

Contact me if you can and want to help out. We'll be insulating and dry walling one wall and the ceiling of the garage. If you can make it, plan on bringing any of the following items:

Drill with drywall bit, (corded or cordless w/charged battery)
Step ladder
Staple gun, (I'll supply standard staples)
Heavy duty utility knife, (I will have blades that my fit your knife)
Work gloves, (its fiberglass bat insulation)
Mask or respirator if you feel you need it

I have all the above as any good homeowner should, but it'll go faster and smoother with others bringing their own. I should have all the other supplies needed; if not, a local hardware store is a mere one mile away. Weather permitting; I'll fire up the grill for burgers and dogs. I may be able to talk Jen into something like her homemade potato salad, her own baked beans or something like that. If we're lucky, some or her cookies too. I'll have soft drinks in the fridge too. If you want something special, you should plan on bringing it and know that I'm not dealing with anyone in a drunken stooper.

Again, contact me if you wanna help out and I'll get you the details like times and directions. BTW, I'm in west central Ohio, about 65 mile west of the center of Columbus, 15 miles north-northeast of Dayton or 45 miles dues eat of Richmond, IN.

Thanks!
Vance

I have a co-worker who has about 10 years of pro drywall experience. He's not gonna ba able to show up until noon. So I figured who ever shows up early, say 8 or 9, can help with the insulation and we'll ump on the drywall as soon as we can. I may even start the insulation on Saturday when I get off work.

I'll PM you my cell phone later.

!!!DATE CHANGE!!!!

Due to a couple key volunteers asking to change the date and I still need to get some crap out of the way, I'm bumping it back a week to November 8th.

Contact me via PM or e-mail if you wanna/can make it. I'm trying to judge food quantities.

Thanks,
Vance

Quick update!

My son Josh came over yesterday morning and he and I hung the insulation on the one wall, so that's done. After he left, I put up four 94" long bats into the rafters; which was enough to make me realize this is definitely a two-person job.

So, this Sunday we're going to tackle the rest of the insulation and the dry wall. If I get the chance to make another solo attempt at the ceiling insulation, I will. If anyone wants to drop by on Saturday to help, the invite is there. Otherwise, I'll see you Sunday!!!

Again, anyone wanting to help, PM me and I'll get you the info you need to get to my house. Start time is around 10AM.

Sunday update.

We didn't get the garage done, but I'm cool with it. The guy who showed up from my morning job is a 10+ year drywall vet. He's a true artist. He was able to get the one wall done and about a third of the ceiling done. And what he did get done was easily the hard parts. I'll post some pix later. This guy is a master. He didn't miss cut a single cut, NOT ONE! He's my new DIY hero.

A couple of the guys who came by from my afternoon job will come by Wednesday and we should be able to get most if not the rest done. All three of us work at the local Community College so we don't have to work there due to Vet's Day. So when we knock off for that day, I'll snap some shots and post them.

Thanks for putting up with me,
Vance

Another update since two friends and my son showed up on the holiday to help out.

Sunday we got two full rows up on the ceiling and the one wall. And last night we were able to put up 3 more rows; leaving only one row of 40" wide on the far right side and both front corners.

So this weekend I'll be finishing up the two front corners by myself and that last row will have to wait until I can round up my help again; prolly next weekend.

It's done!

I finally got my garage all dry walled and ready for the cold winter. Yesterday morning my brother-in-law, his best friend and I ran the last course on the ceiling. While we were doing this, I ran the new heater. When we started, it was about 50 degrees in there and less than 30 minutes it got up to a balmy 72 degrees at which point I shut off the heat as we were getting rather warm. That temp settled in and hung around for almost two more hours before I noticed even the slightest chill in the garage. Needless to say, I'm pretty happy.

I have some photos, but I forgot to load them onto my flash drive and bring them to work. I'll post them late tonight or tomorrow.
