New Job!!!

After about five years in college working towards an IT degree, I finally nailed my first full-time job in my degree field. I'm trading in my 2 part-time jobs for one full-time job. This gig is full-time with benefits and two weeks of vacation in the first year. Not bad for an entry level job, huh?

I start work on Monday. Two weeks later, cash starts getting set aside for the Biscayne!!!

Congrats on the job! We'll expect to see alot more progress pictures now.

Don't listen to me, what do I know? I've only been doing this for 30 years.

The one thing that I found paid off was to follow-up. I can't stress that enough. My new employer actually thanked me for calling back several days after the first AND second interview; it was proof that I wanted the job. So FOLLOW-UP!!!

Stick with it man. Good things come to those who wait; I'm living proof.

I started looking seriously about eight months back and sent out roughly 80 resumes; using three or four job sites. Ironically, I got two interviews with two different companies in the same week. Those both spawned a second interview, ON THE SAME DAY!!! A week later, I made my follow-up calls. I got put off by one company and an offer by the second. The rest is history...

Hey congrats! Now get ready for the real world of long hours, bitchy a-holes and people with no patience or tolerance. I did IT stuff for a brief time- can you tell?

None of that here. I'm working for a Tier 1 auto supplier, (this means there's a new car in my future at dealer cost or less!) that ISN'T a union shop. So far, I've found that I work with a bunch of good and level-headed folks. I'm pretty happy.

Congrats, welcome to the world of 24/7 Techno-Slavery. Now you can start worrying that your job will get outsourced to some incompetent cheap labor overseas, while your blood pressure goes up from the stress.

I'm always watching!

It might serve as an object lesson that there are issues to resolve in the real world and mom won't be there to help. I have had bad bosses and good bosses and I had the oportunity to walk any time I didn't feel appreciated due to my level of education and expereinces (and a buch of contacts groomed over the years).

Amen. Besides, I went from two part-time jobs without and benefits to a full-time gig with full benefits; it's gonna take a lot to bring me down. I'm pretty easy going and tolerant too.
