The two five ton wire slings shown under 1968 Impala were installed during the federally mandated safety recall of 1968 to hold the motor in place in the advent the rubber motor mount seperated (as they where prone to do if you installed a bigger than stock motor in the car or liked to stand on the brake and gas at the same time).

They are quite rare now and a collector item.

There should be a steel bracket that bolts to the cast iron manifold that is part of the fix (the sling went around the upper A-arm cross shaft and was held in place with a pin and a Cotter key).
