1960 - 4 Door

Recently got jilted on a deal with a 65 2dr.
But I think the Good LORD was directing me away from that car.

I had in my head/heart set on a 65, and that was the ONLY year I was interested in... then I came across a 1960. WoW! I love the lines!

While surfing, I found a 60 near by (actually 2). Both are 4 door cars, both look like they are in great condition. I know, it wouldn't have the CQQL factor of the 2 door, but I do have a family (2 daughter - 11 & 6)... I think this could work for us over the next few years. Besides, I drive a 4 Door everyday (Jeep Patriot), so what is the big deal... Right?

One sparks me more than the other...
I'm huge fan of Blue (and one is). New interior. It's a Sedan. Presently as a 350 and a power glide. Came from SW a couple of years back.

Any thoughts?

If you have your heart set on a 65 Impala, Don't compromise with anything else. You will always wish you hadn't bought the 60. But If you will be just as happy with the 60 then by all means buy it. Just buy the most rust free car you can afford. Put it up on a lift and inspect the body and frame carefully. It will save you thousands in repairs.

just talked to the guy with the 60. He works at a Chevy dealer and we can take it there to see the underside. He gave me tons of info over the phone and will be sending pics to me tonight.. Better pics.

Heart Set, no... really it was the 1st one I ran into that was a very solid car. I liked it because it had the 3 tail lights (to me that says IMPALA)...

On the plus side, parts for the 60 are easier to get than the 65. The 1960 is one of my favorites of the 58-64 series. One thing to consider, some 4 door specific parts are hard to find, as the market caters to the 2-door SS crowd.

true about parts, but that's part of the challenge and there seems to be plenty of 4 door cars floating around...

I just recently went through what you are going through right now. I had my heart set on a Chevelle. I ran into my 1962 impala 4 door sedan and I absolutely love it. I am active duty air force in alaska right now and when i tell you that you cant find anything you need in this state for old school cars i mean it. Its been very exciting putting my own signature on this car. I have tons of resources for you if you need help. The most helpful reply I've seen that people has given u is the one about looking under the car for rust. I got a great deal for my car it is rust free i took it to a shop to lift it up before i purchased it and right after that inspection put the money on the table. Its currently getting painted. I have had offers for my car everyday at the shop, and i wouldnt sell it to anybody. Buy it if its worth it and make it your own. Hit me up if you need help with anything. The only parts that are hard to find for 4 door impalas are the chrome trim that goes down the side of the car. Mine were in great condition so i got them polished and they look brand new. Every other part I can tell you were to get it from.

If the price is right and it calls your name, buy it! Good luck!

thing is... it's not calling.... it's screaming!!!!

the price is good; especially with new interior, new motor, new paint, bushings, brakes...

right now in our lives... a 4 door would be perfect - young kids.

the condition is exceptional

the color is perfect tooblue

The only issues that I have come up with is.... missing a couple pcs of chrome (available) and doesn't have a radio (dash is NOT cut up).

Trying to work out details now...

1960 Impala - More Door

Well, I'm going to look at it on Saturday...

Not 100% sure if I'm flying solo, or if I'm taking my girls with me... my wife has to work.
Going to meet the guy after 1:00 pm.

It's going to take me roughly 5 hours to get there...
Got some nice clear pics last night from him and I'm feelin' it.

I was against more doors before, but I have had a change of heart.

Looks nice, clean and og. If it's screaming then get it! Radio is the easiest thing to add. If you get a good price and keep it clean you should be able to get your money back, should you ever decide you want a 2 door...

Oh man I love it but then again 1960 is a dream car of mine. I finally was able to get one around Christmas last year but then have had to have sugery on my wrist and have been in one cast or another since Jan. 9th. I still have a month or two to go with healing and rehab then I will be starting my resto.
Here's a pic of mine.

well, I know I won't come home with it tomorrow.
There is a title issue, and won't be settled for a couple of weeks... but if it's worth it. I want to have my foot in the door.
This is the only time I have to go look for the next couple of weeks.
If and when the paperwork is settled, then I'll take the train out to get it. AmTrak runs near both of us...

As long as the price is within your budget and its as nice as it looks, I think it would make a great family car.

Make sure the title is sorted out before opening your wallet. I have seen some threads of folks who had nightmare issues with that sort of thing.

title is back from previous owner...
the owner whom I am buying from is going to DMV on Monday and requesting a "speedy title"... he figures it'll be back with in the week.

Went and saw the 60 More-Door today... I'll be coming to my house soon.
It drove like a dream! Ran smoothly, shifted smoothly, rode smoothly.

well as stated in above post...
title issue should be resolved by end of this following week or early the week after that..

Seller agreed to hold the car for me w/o deposit, just on a hand shake.
Once he has the title, he will call me, and then he'll take the deposit.
Most likely it'll take us a couple of weeks to get back up to him, but he said that is fine. Going to look into possibly paying for it to be shipped down vs. picking it up. 600 miles today was a bit more than I like to drive and with a truck and trailer... it'll put me on my butt.

Talked with him for an hour+ today... Very nice and very informative and very honest.
Walked around the car and showed me and my F.I.L. the issues with the car.
There is one spot of bondo that he pointed out... Right rear fender... It's not something that needs immediate attention, but it'll be something to be addressed over the winter.
Chrome is OK to Good. Some new, Some Not New

CHEROLET script is missing
2 trim pcs on front fenders (head light to fender well)
1 on the trunk lid
(I was aware of all of these)

Tire/Rims are 15" rally wheels, Not the look I am going for. I have always wanted a set of Tri-Bar hub caps and wide whites. don't think I can put the hub caps on the rally wheels. Anyone know?

The tires have 300 miles on them as do the rims (this will be a sell item)

As mentioned, my FIL who was completely against the 4 door went with me. He's into his trucks - chevy Hotrod and 35 ford hotrod.
Once he saw it and we looked it over.. He was sold. He even liked the fact of the extra 2 doors.

While far from perfect, it is very drivable for the year and tinker as I go.
  1. Exhaust... it needs some duals and some growl/bark.
  2. radio
  3. rims/hub caps & WWW (2.5")
  4. fender skirts
  5. lake pipes

of course fix little odds and ends.. maybe swap out the generator

pic is my f.i.l.

Unless I am mistaken the tri-colored hub caps where only for fourteen inch wheels, if you have fourteen inch rally wheels with fourteen inch tires the full wheel covers will fit.

Impala Bob in Arizona should be able to find you the small parts you need.

Congrats! I think you'll grow to love the 4-door.

So many people are afraid of 4-doors. I would be less happy about my '62 if it wasn't a 4-door, because it's different than everything else I see.
