Orginal 63 Impala Convertable

I purchased an original paint , 37,000 mile Impala convertible about a month ago. I would love to post pictures ,but not only do I not know how , I don't have a camera. I am open for ideas on what to do with the car ,that belonged to a friend who has passed away. I am 100% pleased with the car 327 powerglide, though a 4 speed would be nice. Mechanically the car will remain as is.

The original paint is good enough for cruise nights and in all honesty a pretty much depleted savings account. Under the hood is a disaster as would be expected for a fifty year old car. No real visible grease but the paint is beat as would be expected. What is left of a couple stickers on the radiator support column remain. I can see where a spray can was used on the fender wells. The paint on the motor is pretty much gone. I leave the hood down at cruise-ins and would not attempt a show.

This is my question , how far can I go or can I paint under the hood and have the car remain original ? I am looking for ideas and or advise. Thanks Mike

Welcome to the Team Mike!

I don't think they take points off at car shows for repainting the motor.

I don't know how mechanical you are but I would pull the motor and clean it up. Also that gives you plenty of room to clean the engine compartment.
