2009 SEMA Show Enthusiast Research Program

I can't remember where I heard about this, but I'm VERY happy to announce that I've been selected to attend this year's SEMA show as a 'non-industry' attendee.

http://www.sema.org/news/2009/09/16/...search-program

As an attendee, I'll be visiting the show and sharing my experiences with all my 'social network' outlets. They want to let some 'non-industry' types in to see how the show looks and feels to an 'outsider'. So leading up to, once there and probably for a short time afterwords, I'll be posting to this site, (probably through a personal blog), on my personal website, (see my signature) and other internet message boards. I might even be Tweeting some if give the chance,(look me up at www.twitter.com, user name violentlee).

I mentioned this on another board and got this response - For years they've made a point of industry business people being the only attendees, typical of a trade show. Now, "customer" pilot program? I suspect they realize that "civilians" have been "sneaking" in one way or another. Is this an attempt to legitimize that with some control? The cynical might claim that with attendance off they're looking for a way to boost the gate.

Quite frankly, I don't care what the reason is, I'm just happy to be going as without the new program, I may never have been able to go.

So, watch for my posts and see what I see.
Vance

Serious upside here - my older sis lives in Vegas so I don't have to worry about a hotel room at all.

Put on your walking shoes and buy a large capacity disc for your digital camera. There is somewhere around 4 milllion sq ft of stuff to see. This is THE gear head show of shows. My company has a booth there every year and I've been given the opportunity to go walk the show for a couple of days as a perk for the last 6 years.

You never know who you'll be rubbing shoulders with there.

No doubt, it's a great experience. I 'snuck' in for the week a few years ago.

DEFINITELY get some good walking shoes and lots of camera picture storage like Scott said!

I'm looking for t-shirt for the publicity photos...

Seriously, I wear nothing buy Vans so I'm good in the shoe department.

I have a 8Gb flash card so I think I'm good there. I do want to pick up a couple new batteries. Mine only last about 4 hours each at events like a Goodguys show.

I found out that I'll only getting one pass; my son wants to go. I was told there is plenty outside the center to keep people entertained, but I wanted to walk the floor with at least one person I know. Oh well. I'm sure it won't be too tough to find a kindred spirit in that crowd.

Update -

As fate would have it, my wife lost her job the week I was notified about this and we decided that for me to spend the travel money to attend would not be the best thing for our bank account at this time. So, I won't be attending. The woman in charge was VERY understanding. She offered me a chance to be added to the list for future events and opportunities to work with SEMA in this capacity. That was pretty cool of her, at least I think so.

So if anyone from here goes, take TONS of photos so I can see what I missed.

Thanks,
Vance
