How can I change the color of the gauge lighting?

Trying to change the color of the gauge lights in the dash. Are there bulbs I can replace with colored ones or do I need new overlays? Does anyone know how to do this and if bulbs how many or what size?

You can get silicone bulb covers to go over your bulbs that will change the illumination. Or, change the bulbs for colored LEDs.

Most of the older model cars had 194 bulbs you can get L.E.D. bulbs to go in place of them like Jason said they make brighter ones now. If you put silicon covers the will dim the light output make it harder to see or you could go with the glow string lighting trim the inner gauge cluster I have seen it in auto parts stores.

www.superbrightleds.com has the LED styled 194 socket. just remember, A: they're bright, B. LED's are directional lighting, not omnidirectional, and they don't have the warm bulb glow.

that said, I put blue ones in my Lexus GS400 door lights, and my front external parking lights. (5-LED'ers up front!)

Thanx for the info! Will the dimmer nob still work on LED bulbs?

I had a '64 Chevelle years ago. Before there was such a thing as colored bulbs, I changed the color of the dash lights to red by painting the back of the cluster with fluorescent red paint. (factory was green) It worked great but you would have to repaint it once a year because the paint would fade.

Don't listen to me, what do I know? I've only been doing this for 30 years.
