Generic 65-66 frame question

I'm working on getting a TKO-600 into my 66 convertible and looking for a workable cross-member solution.

The transmission mount needs to come rear-ward about 1 1/4". Seems like most solutions are expecting more of a 'C-channel' frame and they just slide the stock X-member back and drill new holes. My frame is boxed.

Are non-convertible 65-66 frames a C-channel?

Yes your convertible frame is a fully boxed frame that is stronger than the non-convertible frame that relies upon a body to offer rigidity to an open C-channel frame.

You can cut off the stubs to mount the transmission cross-member or buy some used to keep your old ones in place. Then weld the stubs where you need them using the cross-member and transmission to hold them in place while you tack them in place. Once you verify everything is in place you can fully weld them in.
