Confirm Order

Okay long story before I toss the new wires on I want to confirm this is correct. It is an image of the hei and vaccum..

Generally it is comvention to "point" the distributor at number one cylinder as in this Youtube video.

Big Dave already responded but yes, use the firing order and layout as shown in the video link. After setting top dead center mechanically, this is where your distributor will fall for the most part. Happy timing!

If it is running now I wouldn't move the distributor or rewire the distributor.

Only reason most mechanics have number one pointing at the cylinder is so they can easily identify the wiring and to allow enough room to swing the vacuum can to time the distributor without hitting the engine or the fire wall. As you have discovered the wires can go anywhere so long as you follow the firing order and the plug wires are long enough to reach (factory wires are just long enough, no extra slack).
