Smile what's the difference of sedan, coupe, etc...

I just bought a 62 impala and I am at a stand still about how to start redo-ing it. First of all, how do I tell if it is a sedan, coupe, or whatever else they might call it. Because as I started looking for carpet, it stated coupe,sedan...blah blah blah. Well I really don't know what direction to go in. Is there any site or books I can get to help explain the difference and where to start in restoring my treasured car? Thanks for any help. first 5 digits are 21869. i went to sites to explain this, but they only do 1980 and newer. does anyone know the explination of older car vins.

Never give up!

Daddy,
Just post the 1st 5 numbers of the VIN and your question will be answered.

Cool

A "coupe" generally has only two doors (not four), and is a hard top (no "B" pillar).

A "sedan" can have either two or four door and has a solid frame around the door's window. On modern cars the "B" pillar is very thick because of required roll over protection. On many older cars the window could have had a thin chromed sheet metal frame that rolled up with the galss, but had no center "B" pillar in the car to blur the line between sedan and hard top (I'd still consider this a hard top).

All convertibles are "roadsters", but not all roadsters are convertibles. A roadster by definition has no top "open" to the elements.
