Well I was impressed. Maybe all that money that is mandated by the federal government to make cars safer actually pays off. Aside from the red and blue war paint on the aur bag from the footbal fanatic driving his 2009 Malibu into the lane of traffic occupied by the 1959 Chevy (who was obiously safely driving to the local car show). He will walk away from that accident. The '59 ownwer is probably still pulling the steering column out of his heart and cursing about how he just got all of those panels staright.

Kind of a graceful dance when it played in slo-mo. What a dramatic difference in safety. Great demonstration of progress but I wonder why they didn't use a 2009 Impala?

Combined speed is 35 mph (or each car is traveling at half that speed).

Wow - car safety has come a long way. The new Malibu driver didn't slam into the roof of his car and the windshield didn't fly off. Both cars look totaled. That looks faster than 15mph both - what would a highway speed crash look like? Probably instant fatalities.

Is it me or is something not seeming right here. The 59 weighing more
than the malibu seemed to "give" too easy. The new cars are designed to fold like you step on a soda can protecting the passengers as it did, but the 59 with it's heavy front frame work looked like it "gave in" way too much. Like the driver door folding in half...hmmmm. I had a 80 chevy10 van, a guy rear-ended me with a new saturn a few years ago...The front end of that saturn folded in half like a lawn chair...the van had a small dent in the bumper. I'm probably wrong but.....geeeze I would hope my 65 holds up better.

Got to remember 59' ( I think )-64' had the X frame's and not the full perimeter like our's. But got my finger's and toe's crossed though!

Wow. I would never think the 59 would blow apart like that. There wasn't much resistance in front of the cowl to stop the Malibu. The cowl seems to take the hit and blow out the roof and doors. Amazing video. I agree, these new crush zones work. The rear seat camera shot in the Malibu really shows the protection provided to its driver, compared to the 59.
Thanks for posting. Very interesting.

They all get bent out of shape if you hit them hard enough.
