Count me in for a '64 SS. Originally a 283 PG. Bought it 2-1/2 yrs.ago from an unscrupulous internet dealer in Beaver Falls, PA sight unseen. He swore it was rust-free. I'll never trust anyone like that again. Any ways, here are the pics from his ad. http://www.cardomain.com/id/rmwelch

I'm in the process of patching every single vertical panel and the hood. Bondo 1/2-3/4" thick and patches welded right over the rust, the bastard.
Never done any sheetmetal welding or body work, so it's going slow but getting done correctly.

The engine was a '79 350 with a munched cam lobe. So, I got a 1pc. rear main seal 357 hydraulic roller short block from eBay, added RHS Vortec heads, and a 2004r OD tranny. Looking at close to 400hp. Replaced rear brakes, all shocks, springs, and rebuilt front end. Added front disc brake conversion and found some 15x8 Cragar SS with 245-60-15 BFGs.

Painting it with Auto-Air colors Midnight Blue metallic. Closest color I could find to the original Daytona Blue.

Sorry for the long winded response. Hopefully I can help and be helped on this site.
Thanks,
Rich

Wow, quite the project. Looking good. I don't have the room to go to that extreme, so my plan is to get rid of all the rust, paint it panel by panel, then enjoy the hell out of it.

I owned an Impala in college.

Triple black 2-dr hardtop, bench seat, factory tach, 327-300 HP, M21 Muncie, 3.36 Posi.

About 6 months after owning it, bought 4 Fenton mags with 3-bar spinners for $50 total from a '62 Corvette owner.

2009 Impala LS -- Wife's company car.

I was looking through the members list, as I thought that there were a lot of members specifically using 1964 in their name, but was amazed to discover that we have a pretty good mix.

1964 Impala Dude and myself seem to be doing most of the talking though. Where is everybody else? There have been quite a few '64 owners registering lately, but you guys are not talking. Need to share what we know, and let those who are afraid to ask learn from those bold enough to ask. This board is only going to work if we communicate with each other.

We have no flamers (to my knowledge) and lots of experience to draw upon, so do not feel embarrassed to ask a question, No one here is actually a know it all, though some have accused me of it. As a retired engineer I have some time to do a little research on-line and can draw upon my experience to answer any question I see. It is free advise and worth every penny of it.

I just joined because 64ImpalaDude invited me to. I also introduced myself a little in the welcome forum. Oh don't worry. I will have LOTS of questions to post - hee hee. I hope I can contribute equally as well, but I'm a green-horn when it comes to restoring Impalas, or any other kind of car for that matter. But what I do know: Caveat-Emptor. I have 3 Impalas: The family coupe of 30 yrs, 2 SS's, and of the two SS's, one was a factory L6. Neither with motors or transmissions, and both are the product of unscrupulous scavenging for a better car than the next. IMHO: They are ALL worth fixing, maybe in time???

Maybe there's more 1964 Impalas because that was the second largest production year GM ever had producing the big body cars.1965 beat it out for first place. John

Here's to all of bad 64 owners!!!!

Why does it always have to be 64? Even the registry is 64-70! That doesn't really make sense since the 64 is an X frame car with more in common with a 63 than a 65!

As for membership and activitly Big Dave we just have to give it time! The Nova board used to be pretty slow, but it has since really picked up, for some strange reason! It seems more people are drown to the smaller bodies do to a power weight ratio idea, but a lot of them forget about the years the Impala ruled the racing circuits and seem to favor the smaller A, F, and even the X bodies a little more. I like to think of the Impala more in the Old bull/Young bull story idea. You can get their fast and do one or you can get their in style and do em all!
