Dirty Mary Crazy Larry Tribute

Hey everyone,
I am a somewhat new member and I came up with an idea. I will tell you how I fell in love with the beloved Impala... I was seven years old when I first watched Dirty Mary Crazy Larry. As I watched that big '66 ripping around, I thought to myself that it was the coolest car in the world. I still think all the full-size Chevrolets are second to none.

Here is my idea...tell me some trivia, something you noticed about the different Impalas they used (there was at least two) or your favorite quote from the movie. I personally think the dialog was very funny and I catch myself saying quotes from the movie quite often.

My favorite one is "Well, a truck got in the guys way so he pancaked off a dozer ramp. Locals figure it's souped."

I can't stop laughing after I say that one, every time.

Anyways... what do you think about it? I would bet that everyone on this site has something to say about the film.
Lets here it!

Never saw the film so I can not comment one way or the other. My favorite car movie was Two Lane Black Top; though there isn't a whole lot of dialoge in that movie.

Yeah, Two Lane Blacktop is my all time favorite car movie, then Dirty Mary Crazy Larry, then The Gumball Rally.

Warren Oates has some pretty funny lines in Two Lane and the '55 Chevy is probably the best street racer car ever to hit the big screen.

I am suprised that there weren't more replies to this thread...I was sure that most of our membership would have seen the movie at one time or another.

If you get a chance, do yourself a favor and get the DVD and watch it sometime...it truly is a car cult classic!

I was a kid when I seen 2 lane and DMCL for the first time and all I can remember was the whine of the "Rockcrusher" in 2 lane!

One of my favorite quotes from DMCL was, "That was the best time this turkey's ever done! What did you do to it?"
"I just hit it with a bigger hammer, that's all."

...and then there's my signature, "Speed's expensive, how fast do you want to go?" This hung on my door to my shop for a while. (hotrod shop, that is.)

I LOVE THAT MOVIE!! (even more than 2 lane black top.)

Don't listen to me, what do I know? I've only been doing this for 30 years.

Finally!!! Someone out there gets it!! Good on you earthquake68... the line you quoted comes right after they jump the draw bridge which was totally awesome.

Your signature line comes after Larry asks Bunky if the should do the "Matador instead of the Chrysler". I love everything about the movie...one of the best car films EVER and it never gets the credit it deserves.

Hollywood will never be able to make car films as good as they used to. "Fast and Furious" is the bull**** we get. Please tell me how a huffed Charger can rear wheel spin and front wheel lift at the SAME time!? Did they change the laws of physics and I missed it on the 11:00 news?

Once again...you rock earthquake68!! For an Impala club I was very suprised at how little feedback this thread got. Everybody...take $15.00 and a few hours of your time to see this movie. You will feel alot better I guarantee it!!

Oh yeah, earthquake68, do you know what car movie my signature is from? I can tell you that it's another car movie that never gets any credit but just like DMCL, it kicks ***!!!
Rock on Brother!!

My favorite is Goodfellas. When Joe Pesci is in his white '61 convertable and takes Ray Liotta to see about his date he stood up.

Thanks Kraneking.Everybody thought I was nuts to frame-off restore a 66 Chevy four-door but I had to do it. I have been obsessed with the car since I saw it on tv in the 70s as a kid.All the details are there, built 327,68-69 dog-dish caps,G78 bias-plies,vintage cb radio,California RTG 911 black plate. It even has vintage Thrush mufflers and no tailpipes so it sounds MEAN like Larry Rayder's car!

My favorite in Goodfellas is when Pesci & Liotta are leaning on the rear of a 1965 Impala but the caption says "Idlewild Airport 1963".

Hey...good eye! I think it was an Evening Orchid color on that car but it's been a long time since I saw that movie. I saw the three taillights and then the caption said "Idlewild Airport 1963". I laughed out loud and nobody could figure out why. I explained to my wife and she just rolled her eyes and said "Only you would catch that." I said anyone that knows Impala's would catch that...and you are living proof! Good on you but come on people...Dirty Mary Crazy Larry is the best example of our beloved Impala on the big screen and I can't believe how many people have not seen it or remember it.

That is toOOO coOOOL!! 66 imp, I salute you!! You should be awarded a trophy and a medal for building your car. It's guys like you who really get it and understand. You are a true winner in my opinion...if I lived in your part of the world I would buy you a tank of premium to show my appreciation. Rock on Brother!!
