Trunk Hinge Question

Trying to figure out what's going on with my '62 coupe trunk lid. The left side hinge has a substantial "clunk" when it reaches about 3/4 open, you can actually watch closely and see it kind of jump. I'm going to assume it's worn and there's a flat spot on the pivot point. However, once past that point it will move freely the rest of the way up but drops back to that 3/4 spot to "rest". Here's the questions....is the lid supposed to be able to fully open and stay fully opened? If so could I have not only a bad hinge but weak torsion bars? Also, it appears there may be three choices for tension on the torsion bars. They are in the middle slot. Is that correct or should I try moving them up, putting more tension on them? Thanks! Bob

Springs sag with age. This includes a torsion bar that has lost some of it's preset twist. The extra notches are for adjustment, but they are stiffer than they look.
