Newbie from Toledo, Ohio

Hi, I just signed up to your forum. Been reading this forum for a long time. I get a lot of answers from reading. I am currently restoring a 66 impala ss convertible. Going to need some help on decoding the cowl tag. There is some things on there I can't figure out. I will post a pic tomorrow. Thanks, Doug

Can anyone help with this tag? I know it was Marina Blue, Bright Blue interior and white convertible top and that's all I have figured out? My car also has three different chalk numbers on the cowl that are hard to read. One on the left side, one on the right side and one above the tunnel. I think the one on the drivers side says 76. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Doug

Welcome, Doug! Coincidentally, I'm also Doug in Toledo. I have a '67 fastback that is in very rough shape. Sorry I'm no help decoding, but someone will chime in today or tomorrow!

Here is the picture. I don't know if you will be able to read it. But it says exactly what I posted above.

Picture is Posted. I figured out everything except the 152672 that follows the W2. Is everyone stumped? No responses?

I'll take a stab at it. The reason Paul was looking for a photo is you have a lot of typos or are not reading it correctly.

01C Translates as the third week of January
STyle 16867 translates as a two door Impala SS convertible
1966 year of manufacture
F12 should say FL1 is for the assembly plant ID code for an Impala which is Flint MI.

1176 Body Fisher Body sequence number
TRim 844 translates as SS blue vinyl bucket seats
B have no clue
F1 Paint translates as Marina Blue paint with a white convertible top
W tells me you have a tinted windshield (not the side glass)
2L (there is no 21) states it left the factory with a Muncie four speed
152672 information of interest only to quality control no idea what it actually means

Thanks Dave

Doug,
The members on this site are really very helpful, I think it was more a matter of the format of how the tag was listed. It's much easier if we can see the codes all aligned together in a picture as it helps immensely rather than a listing. Also, many times the characters can be misinterpreted, numbers for letters, etc. The last number listed and we are still trying to prove this out should coincide with the Window Sticker number on the top right corner, which is also displayed on the build sheet.

Thanks Dave, Yes I did make a mistake it is 2L, Although my tag does say FL2 not FL1. Is it still Flint, MI?

FL1 vs. FL2

Yes, Full size used FL2 see another posting on here, similar tag.
http://www.impalas.net/forums/showthread.php?t=1607

Now, if you go to the Chevelle site, you'll see their 66 used FL1 interesting:
