68SS New to me

Hi All,

I finally got the hand-me-down I've been waiting for! My Dad just gave me my uncles 1968 327SS (bored .20 over). My uncle drove it off the showroom floor and it's been in the family, garaged, every day since. Does that qualify as a 1 owner car!? probably not...

It's a driver, not perfect and has been repainted in the original factory color but it's bone stock with all its pieces and parts and the AC blows cold. Works for me. It's a notch back, that's what I've been told the non-fastback body was called, anybody heard of that?

Anyway, I'm in Riverside, CA. So if anyone out there is close and needs a car show wing man let me know.

Thanks.

Here she is. Affectionately known as "La Bamba".

Your car is looking very good. I would call it a one family owned car but you misspelled Obama.

Welcome to the Team Todd!

Two Door Hard Top instead of the Two Door Sport Coupe they normally used for the SS; unless I am mistaken (as I usually am).

That body style is called a Custom Coupe, same as a Caprice 2-door car. What a beautiful car! congratulations. Don S

Thanks for the welcome. I've been looking at a lot of pictures since I got her, but haven't see many like it. Is it a rare model at all or just not the more popular fastback?

Thanks again for the welcome and information.

The Caprice used that roof line. I thought for sure it was a Caprice, sans badges, until I saw the Impala logo on the fender. The Impala is just one of four trim levels for the Chevrolet B-body. It starts with the Biscayne at the bottom, Bel Air is next, then the Impala and finally at the top of the food chain the Caprice. The Caprice was the Cadillac wanna be of the Chevy division; having the most trim and optional features on other Chevy's as standard equipment.

I have never figured out if it would be cheaper to order an Impala decked out with all of the Caprice standards, or to buy the Caprice model with it's different roof line. But some things such as the Fleur de Lis in the fabric and up until now I thought the Caprice roof were reserved to that trim line only.
