New SS owner

Been into cars all my adult life and most of my childhood. I owned 5 62s in the past, but got into Streetrods and then 50s cars. But now the hot rods are too expensive and hard to get in and out of, so I just bought a very nice '64SS Impala with an automatic. Going to change the suspension to Global West components to make it handle better and a 200 4R tranny to make it a little more economical. Anybody on here done these mods that can give me advice or good tips?

Welcome to the site.

Although I can't help much on the mods.

Sounds like a nice car.

Welcome to the Team Joe!

There is another member a week or two ahead of you doing the same thing. As I told him at the time; I have not swapped an OD into an older X-frame car (which has it's own issues) there have been at least five others who have previously posted about performing this swap in an X-frame B-body. You can search the old posts by topic using the search button above. Welcome to the site. Sounds like you have some great mods planned ahead.

I have a 66 and probably not relevant to your questions, but I did GW front upper A-arms and then Hotchkis in the rear suspension. Hotchkis is a site supporter I believe, food for thought.

Welcome to the site. I also have a 64 SS, mine has a 327 and a power glide. I haven't done any mods like you are describing so I probably can't help you out but good luck with that project.

How about some pictures?

A 200R would be a nice upgrade but a 5 speed might be more fun.
