Newbie 62 owner from Oregon

Hey all - My name is Aaron...I am a newbie to the world of Impalas. I have always been a Nova and c-10 guy.

I've been looking for a low budget 62 for about a year. I finally found one that wasn't a complete rust bucket. I'm not usually into the more doors, but my budget couldn't touch a 2 door hard top.

I really wanted a son to work on cars with but that didn't happen, so this project is hopefully going to make my 3 daughters into Impala girls! At 5 1/2, 3 1/2, and 1 my girls are already pretty dialed on the car scene. They love car shows and love spending time with me working on projects.

My dream behind this car is that I get to spend quality time with my girls making it into a car that they love and cherish. I'm starting the project really early so that I don't have to rush it. My goal is that I won't work on it without one of my girls with me. So far, I've been keeping a journal of what we do on it together so they can look back and see how many good times and hard hours we put into making it theirs.

All we've done so far is drop the gas tank, clean out the interior, and rebuild the drive line. I'm hoping to try to get it started sometime soon. It hasn't ran since 1992. It's got a 327 with a power glide. My plan is to drop it down low, put a 350 in it, probably 18/20 wheel combo, power steering, disc brakes, let the girls decide on interior and paint...and make it a super sweet chick ride for my girls. The plan is to give my oldest daughter the keys on her 16th birthday and then they will pass it down the line every two years (if it makes it that long)

So that's it. I'm sure I'll have a lot of questions down the line. Hope to be a contributing part of the community here.

Nice car. Welcome from Washington State. I would keep the 327 and powerglide combo. I myself have a 66 with 327 and 2 speed power glide in it. I love it. But anyway welcome to the forum and keep making memories.

That is an awesome story. I love how you are journalizing the experiences with the girls. That will be a very special car.

Welcome to the Team Aaron!

Great car for the project as it will have room for all three girls. Not sp sure about the PowerGlide as a TH350 would be a better choice, with a 200R4 being a better tranny than even the TH350.
