Greetings from Historic Harpers Ferry
Always wanted a 63 Chevy Impala SS. It was supposed to be first car back in 1969, but Dad had other ideas and wouldn't allow his 17 year old son to drive such a beast. And so it went, although he did relent somewhat and bought me a 1967 Chevelle Sport Coupe. BUT...it had a straight six and a powerglide. It looked great but couldn't get out of it's own way. I guess we were both happy campers.
Fast forward 48 years and I came into some unexpected money. What to do with it??? I know...I'll blow it on something I've always wanted but never had to opportunity (or cash) to get, my 1963 Impala SS. I looked around and found a nice example in PA at a car dealership who had in on consignment. It's a Laurel Green 327 SS 250 HP with a Powerglide. I made the deal and drove it 150 miles home with no issues. It needed body work with some rust popping through in the quarter panels, and eventually we (the body shop owner who is a good friend and I) decided to go full Monte and give it a proper facelift with a new paint job as well. The car only had 36K original miles on it. They stripped it right down to bare metal and did it up right. It looks incredible now with a finish as smooth as glass with no orange peel. I'm still working through a list of issues, many of them interior cosmetics, but it looks like a millions dollars on the outside. [IMG]
