Hello from Nebraska

Well, I've been reading Skim's write-up for many months now, figured I would finally post something.

I have a 61 Impala, two door sport coupe, it was my dad's from 62 until 2007, when we decided it was time to pull it out of the barn and get it restored. It was a long journey, but well worth it today.

Photos are from 1962, 2007 and 2008 (way before, before, and after restoration)

Hope to learn a few things here, as well as share some of the things I've learned along the way.

Welcome to the site.

It is great to have before and after pictures. Is it the same barn the original picture was taken in the front of?

Welcome to the site. Love the picture history! Those are great to have. It looks beautiful... Are those the factory Hubs and Tires in the old pic? They seem different then what I'm used to seeing. Also, I see both Red Tops and White tops on Red '61s (mine has a white top). Was this an ordering option or does the top color denote certain models i.e. engine size, SS...?

My family has a history with full size Chevrolets as well.
Here is a shot from my parents wedding slides from 1963.

Thanks for the warm welcome and compliments everyone! I also had no idea there were so many fellow Nebraskans on here!!

Replies to the questions:

drabina: No, the second picture isn't the barn it was stored in. But, in the first picture from 1962, the barn in the background is where it was stored from 1974 to 1985. That's also where the mice REALLY got into it...

Buggin58: They are the original rims, but the hubcaps are from a 55 Chevy 210. My dad wrecked his 55 and bought this 61. I don't know about ordering white tops - this particular Impala is rather plain-jane (283, powerglide, power nothing, no air, no windshield washer, etc), so definitely no white top.

Bubble: I love the old family history and stories with these cars. I'm hoping to scan some slides and old photos. Somewhere in those stacks is a photo of this 61 chained to a U-Haul trailer for when my parents bought their first house. Can't wait to scan that one!

Anyone planning on going to the All Chevy show at H&H this year?

Thanks again to all!
Darin

Won't be able to do the H&H show this year......going to be in St. Louis at the speedway for the Nationwide race that weekend. Have an old friend down there and plan on doing a little .
Don't really know what shows I'll make the rest of this year....but, going to Spearfish for the NIA 30th anniversary week and the Kool Deadwood Nites weekend in August.

Welcome, Darrin! GREAT history on that car.. I think that's awesome to have it in the family for it's entire life.

I'm from a "Chevy Family" too - I muse often about the 60's - early 70's when my mom had a Blue 4-door '63 Bel-air, my Dad had a white '63 wagon, Grams had a '63 Aqua Sport Sedan, and bro had a Red '63 SS 4-speed. Clearly, we were fond of them - and I wonder why today I have a '63 Impala! ...just seems natural. Good Luck!
