When I was a young man in 1964, I bought a new 1964 Red Impala SS convertible. This week I did it again. Same color combo: Red with white top and red interior. The main difference is my first car was a 327, and this one is a 283 w/AC (C60), factory AM/FM with reverberator. 62K miles. I have a copy of the original Texas title. It was built in Arlington, TX in the second week of October.
I don't recall the name of the red, but I believe it was Ember ?!!? This "new" car appears to be the same color. It still has the original paint, although a little thin, and original top. The paint code on the firewall tag is 972-1, but I can't find that code listed on numerous sites. I find 922 and 923 for Riverside and Ember, but nothing for 972-1. I'm guessing the 1 is the white convertible top, but the 972 is a mystery to me. Is this actually a correct code, or is it a mis-stamp?!!? Thanks for any insight into this.
I did find on one color chart 972 as a "Two Tone" color of Adobe Beige/Cordovan Brown, but that doesen't fit my car.
