Hello from Ohio

Hi, my name is Andy, I have a '69 Impala 4 door hardtop. I bought it in '98, it was my first car. I haven't driven or worked on the car in a few years, it's just been sitting in the garage. I really should get it back on the road because I really miss driving it. Third gen Camaros, Chevy Celebrities, and older Chevy trucks have taken up all of my time... as well as having a family.

Sorry I don't have any pictures, they are all older and on film.

My wife took some pictures of pictures, we don't have a scanner. They are from when I got the car, and shortly after. I bought the new rallies and tires within a couple weeks of buying the car.

It had 89K on the original 327/th350, and the tires were from '79 according to the Goodyear dealer (when my dad and I went there complaining that one separated with like-new tread). It was the original paint above the bodyside molding. I recently contacted the second owner, he bought it in '71 at Hugh White and sold it to a fellow in the early-mid 80's. I did a little bit of research and the original owner I believe is still alive, but 98 years old. Probably doesn't remember the car well, I would assume.

All I have done is rebuild the 327 with larger valve heads and a Holley 4 barrel and intake, has about 110K on the car now. And the vinyl top is now black rather than dark green. Of course there is also now more rust, the paint is faded, and the car has been the victim of a couple minor hit-and-runs. Rusted brake lines and a non-op fuel gauge is what put the car in storage.

Anyway, sorry for the rambling

Welcome to the Team Andy!

If you still have the original 1979 rubber on the car ditch it. It is unsafe no mater how good the tread looks.

Those '79 tires were on the wheels in the first picture, with the '63 SS caps. They were replaced with the 15 inch rallies and new tires back in '98

When the weather gets warm again, I can dig the poor car out of the garage and figure out a plan of attack on what needs to be done. There is a lot though. The car isn't nearly as nice as it was in the pictures above. That was long enough ago that gas was only 89 cents.
