Talking New guy from Vancouver

This looks like a great site! Its nice to read the posts and how members try to encourage and help each other when someone runs into problems with their project. The amount of useful but hard to find information that members come up with is amazing. I recently became interested in early 60's Impalas and would really like to get one. I have two children and would like them to learn about how cool old cars are by working on them. To that end I would like to ask a favor of the members: Can you give me the most important areas on 1963 /64 to check before buying one? Are there certain problem areas that Impala owners found out about as a result of owning and restoring them? Or any good books to buy and read about buying/restoring early 60's Impalas. I am looking for a 4 speed 283 or 327 model.
Thanks
Paul

Welcome to the Team Paul!

To misquote Horace Greeley Go South young man. You want a car from the desert southwest (SoCal, Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico. or West Texas). It will pay for itself in the long run. The early Chevy's were popular with Hispanics in the early Seventies and they grabbed up as many as they could find. Ever since the Gringo's copied their low rider look they have been shedding them or stashing them in garages in back of houses in hopes the fad will pass. You can find a well preserved Impala already lowered ready to go which will save you years of work and a yard full of donor vehicles trying to save one from the rust monster.

Thanks for the suggestion Dave - if you see a 50 year old white guy with his Vancouver Canucks hat on backwards trying to look all gangsta driving a 64 Impala lowrider with two kids in the back = wave, it will be me lol

Nice 61 Don

Thats a beautiful 61 Don. I am just in the research phase and not yet in the purchase phase of getting an old Impala. I am glad I have found this site. Just out of curiosity, how much are you asking for the 61?
