66 Impala Convt Cruiser in So. Cal

Hi,
My name is HP in San Diego and I have a 66 Impala Convt that I LOVE;
I must be the only Asian guy that appreciates an old classic.

I can't go anywhere without finding notes on my windshield to buy
or young girls asking me for a ride (darn I wish I wasn't 50 years old).
Even my dog refuses to get into my other car (Infiniti) and only wants to ride in the Impala with the top down (spoiled rotten American pet).

It was 100% original but I upgraded the distributor to Mallory, dual exhaust and switched 2 barrel to 4, 2 spd Powerglide to 3 spd (don't know what type of tranny it is); now I actually can pass with its measely 283 CI. Also changed the valve covers too so it appears somewhat "muscle".

I am not looking to make this into a hod rod nor a show room classic; just want to drive & enjoy it without going bankrupt.

My experience says that may not be possible

Welcome to the site, looks like you have a fun car. My dad went through three '66 Impalas when I was a kid. I got my first taste of auto mechanics changing the water pump on one (my dad had never heard of anti-freeze or anti-corrosion additives).

A couple of good resources for you:
http://www.nationalimpala.com/
The National Impala Association. While the club does seem to be a lot more active back East, they do sell parts, some of which are unique and not found elsewhere. They are also a great repository of knowledge on the topic.

The Vintage Chevrolet Club of America

They are active out West and have “tours” where you get to drive someplace as a group. I think that is a lot more fun than sitting around at a car show, which is fun too, but I can only do so much of that.
