Welcome to the Team Dave!

Painted orange that motor would look good under a bubble top's hood.

Don't suppose that was a 409 SS '65 was it?

They made 409's for the first four months of production waiting on the board at GM to make up it's mind if the new engine was going to be a Mystery engine (409 with new porcupine canted valve heads) or if the 396 was going to be a 396 or a 409 as they hummed and hawwed trying to make up their minds. That is why the first 16 months of 396 block castings can be over bored in size to accept a 409 bore size piston (instead the executive board decided to go with the small bore and long stroke; compared to a 409, higher torque 396 configuration).
