Impalabob

Hello everyone. From upstate NY and just joined. I have a '58 Impala, red/white, 348c.i, tri-power, a/t, p/s, p/b. LOVE THIS CAR.
A recent problem that I'm trying to resolve is with the power brake system. Chevy had two(2) systems, the moraine power brake master cylinder, which I have, and the tradle-vac power brake mc for this year. Are they interchangeable, is it a simple switch, are any extra parts needed? I ordered a rebuilt kit(seals, gaskets, etc.) from Kanter Auto Products. Hope this works. Can't find these master cylinders; want to stay original. Any suggestions. Appreciate any input.
Thanks,
Bob

Welcome to the Team Bob!

Can the original be rebuilt? NAPA sells rebuild kits with bigger pistons and seals to match your new bore (assumes the threads and seats in the tube outlets are still good). NAPA also sells new castings for a lot (but not necessarily all) applications.

They even had parts for my 1947 John Deere tractor which surprised me as I would never have thought to go there for ignition parts (but apparently farmers did back in the old days and they found me some NOS parts).

The secret to finding auto parts is a good counterman who looks at a paper catalog instead of a computer screen. The computer is programed to sell the greatest volume of parts and to tell customers that want something not on the shelf to go away by saying it doesn't exist

Thanks Dave for the comeback. I'll give NAPA a try. Rebuilt takes 4-6 weeks from what I'm finding out. Keep you posted.

Tried NAPA, Advance Auto, Auto Zone, these outfits could not hepl. There's someone in Florida that rebuilds these units, calling him tomorrow.
Thanks
