64 Bel Air

Okay, I know it's not an Impala, but I Hope Ya'll will allow me to remain in the club. I'm from Rome MS & I just found the coolest little 1964 Bel Air that is in wonderful condition. No rust, No Air Conditioning, 230 six cyl. ( I think), no power steering, Power Glide. I LOVE IT!! My plans are to redo int. Install A/C, Install 4.8L w/automatic O/D. The body is perfect, every piece of body molding is perfect. Oh Yea, Did I mention I Love It!! This thing drives like a dream. What about P/rack & Pinion?

Welcome to the site!

Bel Air is still Impala family. Plus, if this was Impala only site, I wouldn't be allowed to be here neither with my Kingswood. :-)

Welcome to the Team Barry!

This site is dedicated to all of the B-body Chevrolets made from 1958-'99 (the newer "Impala" is a wrong wheel drive W-Body). It includes Chevrolet Biscaynes, Belairs, Impalas, Caprice and Kingswood (the long roof version of the Impala) models. If we called this board Team B-body not everyone would understand so the original aministrator chose Impala as the representive monkier for all of the B-bodies made by Chevrolet.

Excellent find Barry, you're a lucky dog! Let us see it when you can.

There are 1 or 2 companies with good names behind their R&P setups.... the only one that comes to mind for me right now is Flaming River. A company called CPP might have one too, or re-sell one.

Welcome to the site!

I do not recommend a universal rack and pinion steering kit unless you are prepared to fabricate your own A-arms. The kits introduce bump steer problems and Ackerman angle problems that you currently do not have. A replacement gear box out of a mid eighties and newer GM car or light truck (all use the same part) is a better choice.
