I am new to this forum. I don't currently own a Chevrolet B-car but I ordered and purchased a new 1965 Impala Sport Coupe back in February 1965. I ordered the car the first day that the 396 engine became available. I had trouble obtaining my car because at first there was a big demand for the new engine and Chevrolet was restricting availability to the new Caprice model that became available around the same time.
I eventually received my seafoam green, 325 horse, turbohydro Impala around May of 1965.
I owned it for about 4 years before selling it to my brother in Arizona.
Sure wish that I had kept it all these years.
I ordered my 1965 with a Saginaw tilt column. The next model year (1966) the Saginaw tilt & telescoping steering column was available for one year only in the Chevrolet B-car. I managed to liberate a T&T column and installed it in my Impala along with an Oldsmobile steering wheel and telescope lock mechanism.
BTW, I was a steering system engineer at Saginaw Steering Gear Division, General Motors Corporation for 37 years. Then a Delphi Automotive steering engineer for 2 years before retiring. Now my pension comes from the Feds thanks to the General Motors - Delphi bankrupty. I am lucky, I was 65 when the bankrupties occured so I really didn't lose my pension. (But a lot of salary people that were younger than me lost a whole bunch!)
I may not be visiting this website every day, but if I can help in some small way I will try to visit periodically. BTW, I owned several Corvettes through the years, 1975, 1976, 1980 so I seriously hang out on the Corvette Forum.
