Just bought a 61 Bel Air

I just bought a 61 Bel Air it is all original except for the tires and wheels. 283 with a glide. I am in Virginia and everything in my neck of the woods is rusty or patched up. I bought it off of Craigslist in Gerogia, but it spent its life out west. The body is the best of any old car I have ever had. It is amazing. It was built in LA. Plans call for a 350, 700r4, disc brakes, vintage air, power steering and new wheels. I hope to ride it on the 2012 Hot Rod Power Tour.

Wow! Those wheels look awesome! I'm not usualkly a fan of non-original interiors on these cars, but yours looks great! Best of luck on the Power Tour!

Nice looking car. I'm really digging the wheels.

What drivetrain did you go with? Did you go with the 350/700R4? I'm looking into that setup too.

It is a 350 out of a boat. 1997 Mercuriser still has the Mercuriser tag on the block. 700r4 out of a 93 Caprice. The wheels are 17" x 8" MB old school from discount tire direct.

We wanted it to be comfortable, the seats are out of a 94 Caprice Police car without the head rests ,covered match the rear seat. We wanted to be able to recline. The console is out of a 99 Olds Bravada. We wanted cup holders and somewhere to stash some stuff since the Vintage A/C takes up most of the glove compartment. The ash tray is now contains 3 power outlets for cell phones and GPS.

3700 miles loaded with the trunk completely full and 4 people and averaged 20 mpg. The rear is stock with 3.36 gears.

It did a great job, and we are already looking foward to taking it on the power tour again next year.

I'm lovin your 4 door. I was wondering what that console came out of. And it looks like you were able to use floor linkage that worked with the Bravado console as well. What a great driver! 20 mpg on the road, gotta love those overdrives..

We used everything out of the Bravada, including the console, shifter and shifter cable. It works great.
