New 64 Impala Owner

Hello guys!

My name is Lou and I just bought my dream car 1964 Convertible.
It has a 400sbc I'm not sure if the transmission is really a 350 Turbo.
The car came with a hydraulic system I really don't care too much about.
But the switches are fun to hit every now and then.

You going to go back to a normal coil spring suspension?

My plans are to find a mean 454 or 502 and atleast a TH400 or 700r to go behind it with 3:73s and a better rear.
As for suspension whatever is best for pro-street performance.

You can not beat the ZZ502 for grins per mile, but a 502 will break a 700R4 instantly. You have to go with the TH400 version over-transmission drive which is a 4L80e and it will not fit in your car's transmission tunnel because it is so big (which makes it strong). I am surprised they even got a TH400 to fit in there due to it's size (added length and diameter). Are you sure it is not a TH375 which is a heavy duty TH350 which will fit easily in your car?

Not sure Im gonna get the car on the lift and take some pics!

You know what....Im really starting to doubt its a 350 or 375.

It sure doesn't feel like it pulls a 1st gear at all, I don't feel any shifts!

Powergilde maybe?

PowerGlide was the stock transmission. A 'Glide can be easily (not to be confused with cheaply) to handle obscene amounts of power. If you have a ZZ502 you wouldn't need a first gear as the engine makes more than enough power to take off in second gear (a PowerGlide is just a TH350 with a missing first gear as the 'Glide low range has about the same gear reduction ratio as a TH350 that was introduced in 1969).
