newbie cjophoto

Hey all,
New to the site and looking forward to checking it out.
I have a 65 impala conv. 327 4speed hurst and I really want to make the ride better. What's the best way to tighten up the ride, new shocks and struts, the ones on the car are about 10-12 years old. Besides the squeaks this is my main concern. Any suggestions would be great.

Welcome to the Team Craig!

Body bushings and suspension bushings front and back have probably rotted away by now if they are still the original rubber parts installed by GM. You can replace them with natural rubber (that are softer, and they will not last as long as the originals requiring you to replace them again in a decade or so), or you can use polyurethane plastic bushings that are sold by several different companies to remove a lot of the body flex and tighten up the suspension. There are also solid aluminum bushings that were made and sold decades ago when these cars were raced as "stock" cars, but I wouldn't recommend them for the street.

Double adjustable shocks allow you to fine tune the suspension from soft to firm. there are also replacement springs sold to change the ride quality as well as ride height.

the suspension on my ride is/was 40 yrs old and it wallows around like a school bus.

I put on 4 new shocks since that's pretty easy, but she still wallows on those old springs so I gave a call to Eaton and ordered up 4 new springs to firm things up.
I also ordered the new body bushings but I only have 2 of them in so far.

Plenty of places out there selling springs for you, but, you may or may not be 100% happy with the ride height right off the bat. you might need some research on previous threads here to get a feel for the right spring for you. Lots of folks end up cutting a coil off of the front to keep it from being too high.
