65-70 LS Swappers

I'd like to see who all had swapped an LS series motor into their 65-70. Unlike a lot of other "classics", I haven't seen many posts or threads on our models. It's been hard searching through the threads seeing what works the best and what doesn't. And since a lot of yhese posts are fairly old, it would be interesting to see what parts people have been using that have just been introduced in the recent years.

Maybe talk about what headers or exhaust manifolds you used, oil pan, transmission crossmember, fuel tank, etc.

If possible, post a picture of your car and the engine bay for everyone's motivation!

I'm in the process of building a 5.3L Turbo motor for my '68 SS fastback. I plan on using this company for all the motor mount/ oil pan needs. A little pricey but they are a great company to work with.

Yes they are. I like their headers and their motor mounts. I'm just going to use the original transmission mount on my swap.

It appears that the pan in their kit is the LH8 pan. I have seen threads were this pan wouldn't work without raising the motor up. Can anyone verify this?

I put a 6.2 L L92 with a 4L80E in my 65 SS last summer. I'm running a holley 302-1 oil pan, custom motor mounts, and a wiring harness from PSI. Since my engine has the same D exhust ports as the LS3, I snagged a set of 2010-2013 Camaro LS3 manifolds for my exhaust. I kept the truck manifold too. I've been driving it a ton and it runs great. I did everything myself so let me know if you have any specific questions!

Hello your right I have 65 impala ss Ls swap I used there oil pan I had to add height to the clam shell mount on the frame about an inch & that gives you clearance on the oil pan & power steering gear box also

Hello nicke can you let me know what type of brake booster your running single or dual & were to purchase I have all 4 disc brakes iam running a 5.3L 327 Ls engine thanks

Hay nick what type of ac setup you have I have a no ac 65 impala would like to know if I should go with the Ls engine ac or something like vintage air & I seen one of your post a while ago about power steering upgrade my I converted manual to stock power steering & it's sloppy so iam doing the power steering to quick ratio 12,1what do you recommend & type of suspension should I do ?

Hey Albert. I'm not running AC. I prefer windows down.

Yea, you'll be really happy with the 12.7-1 steering box. That is a great upgrade. As for the suspension, besides upgrading the shocks, I would recommend some sway bars. I have an Addco 1 1/4" bar up front and a 1" bar in the rear.

Of course, there are a ton of options for suspension and depending on budget and what type of driving you'll do, the combo will be different. Hope that helps!

I might mention the radiator will also be a custom made one as most don't offer an LS radiator (one with both outlets on the same side and has a steam vent hole in the tank on each side) for an early Impala. Most LS applications have an electric fan as the majority of stock application LS engines are built without a mechanical fan (I do not know if an LS water pump has bearings and a large enough shaft to even mount a mechanical fan without it falling off).

Some clean swaps in here. Got to love all the availability of direct fit parts for ls-based swaps into anything these days

the 65+ impalas need more love online!

So you use the BRP LH8 oil pan kit? Do you have any photos of how you added height to your engine mounts?

I found a good deal on a Holley 302-2 oil pan so I'm going to go that route.

What headers seem to work for these cars?

I've seen Superdaves post on LS1tech where he used 67-69 Dynatech LS swap headers. And 2010 Camaro factory manifolds on another car.

Does anybody think that these would work?

I used the CCP adjustable mounts (flipped) we had to modify the frame mounts for height clearance. We lucked out on the tranny mount. Using the Holley pan btw...
