Help: Which headers to use?

Hi Everyone,

I'm having trouble finding the correct header to fit my car. Does anyone have a 68 Impala with a big block manual trans, if so what kind of headers are you using. My car was orginally a 327 power glide, when I bought the car it had a 4 spd muncie. I'm now putting a big block in with a tremec 5 spd. I've tried using a Dougs d313 and hedman 68198 and when I try to hook up the z-bar the clutch rod hits the header tube. These are full length headers that are supposed to fit a manual trans.

Does your BBC have stockheads on it. If you are using aluminum heads the exhaust ports are usually raised 0.30" for better flow. Trouble is it raises the whole header up a third of an inch resulting in it interfering with something else (like a Z-bar). Another issue is worn (rotted out) rubber body bushings causing the body to drop over the frame by upwards of a half inch or more.

Yes the heads are stock and the bushings are fairly new. I found a place called stans headers that is making me a set based on a 66 impala 427 4spd car which I've been told should be the same.

If you are willing to spring for custom headers check out Lemons.com headers site to compare prices.
