Exhaust idea

Iv just got my new built 454 in my 65 ss and iv got 2.5 inch magna flows and wondering If I should run it straight out the back or behind the rear wheels? Any ideas thanks

If you're coming out behind the rear wheels already I would just continue it to carry it out to the back bumper. It is quieter inside the car that way.

im starting out with new headers and new mufflers, nothing is there right now to start with. you think right out the back or turn it down at the bumpers?

My personal preference is where each exhaust dumps behind the rear wheels. To me, straight exhaust pipes to the rear bumper are for pickup trucks.

When it dumps right behind the rear wheels you will get more resonance inside the car. The exhaust need to exit outside of the body if you want to ensure there's no resonance.

Yeah, I didn't mean right behind each wheel. I meant full tailpipes that go to the rear bumper then angle down, behind each wheel. Not straight pipes out to the back bumper. Here's a picture of my 65 with what I feel is the right location,.

Here is my 1989 Caprice with a SBC 406 with two and a half inch stainless steel pipes from the header to the bumper (including the bow tie exhaust tips),
