66 impala

Hi all

I would just like to know does the back of the 66 Impala console have a courtesy light where the lens Is. cause since I had my Impala It has never work and would like to fix it. I took the lens off but found no bulb holder or wire. look like the console has been repaired some time ago.

thanks.

I don't know, but it sounds very unusual for Chevy to use a lens and not put a light bulb behind it. Is there room for a pig tail and bulb? Keeping in mind that incandescent bulbs are heaters not a light source; and it will either melt, or set ablaze any plastic that is too close to the element.

If it looks to be a decorative lens instead of functional one a few LED bulbs could fix that. LEDs can be mounted in the plastic as all energy goes into making light not heat.

Here's a picture of the wires and clips for the light. They go in slots under the back side of the console (sorry I don't have a picture of that). The light itself is a tube type that clips into those two clips once they are set into the holes in the console. I'll try to get a good picture later.

Ask for a dome (roof) light as they use the same tube type bulb, and many parts counter computers may not be able to give you the correct part.

Okay, here is a pic with the two holes (squares) where the clips go into. They just push in from the top:

And here is a picture of the actual light. I still have some things to do before I get around to finishing the console and installing it back in the car.
