Where to find a 68 A/C Dash pad core

Hey everyone - I am finally in a position to undertake the finishing touches on my 68. The first thing that I want to address is the horrible re-pop A/C dash pad that I bought on ebay years ago (posted as NOS, of course).

I'm not looking for anything NOS, but I am going to go ahead and spring to have one redone at Just Dashes and need a good core to send them.

Anyone know of a good source? I have been looking locally and have not found anything nor have I seen anything on any of my old source site -

I appreciate any leads.

Thanks - Throck

I've got one or two available, but have rough upholstery. I would need to know more about what you are referring to as a "good" core. Did they still have a Metal Base in '68?

Bill - sorry for the slow response - been on the road. I'm looking for pretty much anything that could be saved by Just Dashes, so as long as the basic framework of the pad is OK then it should be usable. I believe that the original pad had a metal frame of some sort, but its long gone. The repop that I have is not as sturdy.

Yes the metal removable dash was covered by PCV foam then vinyl plastic. Reproductions are just foam and a top cover of vinyl plastic with no base. You are supposed to glue the reproduction pad to your stripped and thoroughly cleaned steel dash plate.

Hi Throck,
After dealing with a repop dash pad for my 1967 Impala SS, I sent mine to Just Dashes. As you may know, they aren't cheap. But....they fit and look perfect --> worth every dime. You won't regret it.

Ive seen the ones that you are describing, but I dont think this one is the same. The one that I ended up with has a steel core, although not as hearty as the original. Just another poorly crafted re-pop that was passed as OEM .

Agree 100 percent. I've seen their work and although its expensive, and at the end of the day, you will have a dash that is less likely to eventually crack due to age since it is essentially new.
