Question about a Canadian VIN

I have a 63 impala and the vin tag reads GM of Canada and has only 10 digits? It is all #'s and no letters. It starts out 317 It is a 6 cyl, but no letter for the plant and only a 4 for the 2-digit style(2-door, 4-door etc.) Is this the way canadian models were?

saw your question on a Canadian built full size Chevrolet. Our VIN numbers were different than US ones, a vehicle history package documenting your exact car is available by checking out Vintage Vehicle Services on the home page here, or by downloading a form at www.vintagevehicleservices.com
We built a great many full size Chevrolets that were sold in Canada and the USA throughout the 60's, feel free to contact us

Yes!

You are lucky the Canadian's maintained all of the records on their cars that the US manufacturers threw away. So (for a small fee) have your car researched and learn everything about it and have a copy of the full documentation. Plus they made their motors with a higher nickel content that was only used in truck blocks in the US.

Thanks for the kind words Big Dave. In general if your VIN number has no letters in it, only numbers, it is a Canadian built car and documentaion is available. We also exported cars to Europe and Australia after the war so they might be ours too!
