Block ID in my 65ss

Just curious if someone could help with the block ID in my 65ss.

On the front passenger "pad" I found it to say F0829GF.

On the rear passenger side it says H244, which I believe is August 24, 1964

I was unable to see what the stamping is on the driver side.

I'm curious to see what the application is. thanks

It appears to be a 283 2 barrel powerglide, cast on August 28th 64 as you say, machine work done on August 29. Likely the original engine for the car.

Ok so FO829GF is a Flint August 29 built 283 / 195 and H224 is August 22, 1964. Is it safe to assume it's original to my car seeing that my car is a 09A or first week of September assembly date?

huh, that's cool. It appears someone added a factory cast iron 4bbl intake though. Here I figured it was a Power Pack 283... oh well. Kind of neat the powerplant is most likely original.

If you want to do the date thing for the intake too (although it's pretty safe to assume it's been changed as I don't think they ever had a 283/220hp B body) you could check under the ignition coil. The intake casting date is likely there.

Only partial VIN in 1963 would appear on a 348 or 409 motor (called "high value"). The 283 would have to wait until 1968 to be marked with a partial VIN and it was the last year the 283 was made.

I've yet to see a 1968 model 283 but I never say never.

Yeah, I always thought the 307 was the base V8 in '68.
