Canadian imported big block cars

Was searching through the microfilm today and noticed we imported into Canada a few 1969 full size Chevrolets from Flint production with some nice big block combinations. I had always assumed that most full size Chevs were domestic production. For a start, if the last 8 digits of your vin are any of these

contact Vintage Vehicle Services at G.M. of Canada for documentation on your car. I should have more vins in the next few days. I never realized we brought in what appears to be about 20-30 of these units into Canada. Hope this helps some of you. You can call me at 905-440-7636 for more info. George Zapora

I know I though that there had never been a two barrel BBC ever built; but the Canadian factories proved me wrong. Came across two two barrel carbed 454's in Estate Wagons that still had the Ontario plates on the car as I was crawling around looking for BBC parts a few decades back. The blocks had forged steel cranks and high nickel content two bolt blocks. So I have learned to almost never say never.

yup

I'm assuming he meant he never knew of any two barrel big blocks from Canada. '69's did have two barrels and nothings else on their 396.

Custom Coupe, 396, 700R4, 3.73 posi.

Actually the US factory didn't offer a two barrel. The 325 horse 396 had a hydraulic cam, oval ports, and a Rochester QuadraJet four barrel; the 350 horse 396 had a hydraulic cam, oval ports, and a Holley four barrel; the 375 horse 396 had a solid cam, rectangular ports, and a Holley four barrel. The 390 horse 427 shared the same PASS parts, as did the 425 horse 427 HiPerf version.

In 69, the 396's in all fullsize cars came with 2 barrel carbs, American and Canadian since all big blocks were being assembled at Tonawanda.

It was rated at 265 h.p. I have a set of 138 large oval heads for this engine. Everything else was the same as the 325 h.p. version.

The '69 396 2bbl had open chamber heads 9:1 compression and there was about 65000 made in the U.S.. From what I have read it was a U.S. only thing. I have seen a few of them and all were U.S. built. I had a '69 Biscayne 4 door parts car with an original 396 325 hp engine in it with a 4bbl. Canadian built car I got from second owner. Car sat in a farm field since late '70s and was very rusty but still some good parts..
